Team “Kyodai Haptics” from our lab has won the honorary award (second place) in "Student Innovation Challenge". The challenge, sponsored by  Dextarobotics and Fourier Intelligence was part of the international conference AsiaHaptics 2020, which took place from 9-11 November online (originally Beijing, China).

To participate, the teams had to use haptic technology in new, creative ways to solve real-world problems. They also could have access to the state-of-the-art devices provided by the sponsors.  One was Dexmo, a wireless force feedback glove that integrates reliable motion capture. The other was Fourier M2, an end-effector robot, currently designed for patients suffering from upper limb motor dysfunction. 12 teams in total had submitted the proposals; out of which 3 have been given awards. Kyodai Haptics got 'second in place' position and a cash prize of $500 USD.

Using the first platform, we develop a (DexMo-based) unified haptic-enabled master interface which is a cross-platform (i.e., can work with any surgical robot), gives full freedom to approach the surgical scene from any convenient direction, and can be used later to perform real robot-assisted surgery (RAS) as well.
